The Prosperity Gospel
As you may know or may have heard in certain circles, there’s a teaching called the gospel of prosperity. They are also sometimes referred to as the word of faith movement, the seed faith movement, or sometimes the health and wealth gospel. As the titles suggest, it is not biblical. There’s only one gospel and its the gospel of Christ. This article discusses a bit on the biblical Christ.
I won’t go into details in this post as the severe failings of this doctrine have been highlighted extensively here, here, here, here, here and here. There’s even more here, here, here and here. Summary is a lot of these guys are professional scammers and they are looking to make merchandise of God’s sheep. As to why they do this, I’m not sure.
This post as you probably already guessed is not about prosperity gospel at all. Instead, it’s to warn the saints about new up-and-coming wolves in sheep clothing.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.Matthew 7:15 (KJV)
There’s been a sharp decline in the influence of prosperity teachers as Christ is setting HIS own free one at a time. However, on the ruins and ashes of this false doctrine, there are those actively looking to deceive with new movements. They pose as sheep under the guise of “we want to set people free from the shackles of prosperity gospel movements” but deep down are ravenous wolves who simply are there to “pick up the pieces of the previous tyrant”.
My brothers and sisters, please beware of these people. They will say anything, do anything just to get their hands on your financial “seed”. Check everything, including my words and those referenced in the introductory section of this post. Test the spirit by which they are proclaimed as many false prophets are out there. Test
Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.1 John 4:1 (NLT)
Be on alert. Do not scoff at prophesies, but rather test them. The big challenge with false teaching is that it’s truth mixed with error so to this, my first advice is from 1 Thessalonians 5:20-22. Hold on to what’s good and depart from evil.
Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 (NLT)
How then do we know who’s true and who is not.
There is only one way – Christ. HE is The Way, The Truth and The Life. So when you know The Truth, you can tell when you hear lies. Jesus is Light. When The Light lives in you, it’s easy to know what darkness is. That Christ is written of in the scriptures and revealed by the Holy Spirit. I urge you to study the scriptures in light of Christ.
As time goes by, I’ll speak a bit more on bible study and tips on studying the scriptures, God willing.
